The myth tells the story of Sati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapati, who marries Lord Shiva despite her father's disapproval. After Daksha insults Shiva and excludes him from a grand sacrifice, Sati immolates herself in the sacrificial fire to preserve her husband's honor.
