Using a divine golden chariot from Poseidon and a secret betrayal involving the king's charioteer Myrtilus, Pelops defeated the king and established the foundation of the Olympic Games. However, his betrayal of Myrtilus also brought a lasting curse upon his bloodline, known as the House of Atreus.
