Myths featuring Adrastus

Amphiaraus, a noble seer and warrior of Argos, was forced into the ill-fated Seven Against Thebes expedition by his wife's betrayal. During the final retreat, as he was about to be struck down, Zeus split the earth open with a thunderbolt to save his honor. The hero was swallowed whole by the ground, becoming an immortal oracle and healing deity at the site of Oropos.

During the siege of the Seven against Thebes, the hero Tydeus was mortally wounded by the defender Melanippus. Although the goddess Athena intended to grant Tydeus immortality, his savage act of consuming Melanippus's brain in a fit of rage horrified her. Consequently, Athena withdrew her divine gift, and Tydeus died as a mortal on the battlefield.

Following the exile of King Oedipus, his sons Eteocles and Polynices agreed to share the throne of Thebes by alternating power each year.
